outreach

Here are some organizations I am working with in the community to advance data standards and oragnize research and career related events.

ML4H

The ML4H Symposium (Machine Learning for Health) is a leading venue for research at the intersection of machine learning and health — bringing together researchers, clinicians, and practitioners to advance the science and practice of ML for health. Simon is serving as an Outreach Chai for the 2026 ML4H Symposium.

MEDS: a Health AI Ecosystem

MEDS is a data standard for structured, longitudinal medical record data, built for reproducible, efficient Machine Learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) research in healthcare. It is designed to be simple, flexible, and interoperable with existing tools and standards. MEDS is entirely open-source and community-driven, and we welcome contributions from all interested parties! Simon has been a contributor on the MEDS team in the end to end benchmarking and tutorials. See Source 1, Source 2, Source 3

UCLA Career Center

The UCLA Career Center's Graduate Career Services (GCS) supports master's students in navigating career development alongside their graduate studies by providing tailored guidance on career exploration, networking, internships, job searches, and the application process. Through workshops, one-on-one advising, employer connections, and curated resources, GCS helps students identify career paths and prepare for successful transitions into industry, academia, or further graduate education. Simon served a Career Consultant for Masters Students from 2024-2025.

Bruins in Genomics

Bruins-in-Genomics (B.I.G.) is an intensive 8-week summer research program that provides undergraduates with hands-on experience in computational biology through faculty-mentored research, bioinformatics workshops, journal clubs, and research seminars. The program equips students with technical and professional skills while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and preparing them for careers and graduate study in genomics, computational biology, and the life sciences. Simon is both a mentor and mentee for Helio and Yanai Halperin, as well as a former alumni of the program.
